As a native of Raleigh, NC, I have long appreciated the high-quality productions offered by the North Carolina Theatre (NCT). Renowned for attracting audiences from across the Southeast, NCT features performances with talent drawn directly from New York City. In addition to its mainstage productions, NCT operates a conservatory in North Raleigh, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of young performers.

Summer 2019 Internship

During the summer of 2019, I served as a Public Relations and Marketing Intern for NCT, where I engaged in creative design and strategic communications projects. This role challenged me to step outside my creative comfort zone and think strategically for the first time in a professional setting. Additionally, the internship provided me with the unique opportunity to meet Broadway stars participating in regional union shows.

As the PR and Marketing intern, my responsibilities included gathering content for social media, writing press releases and media alerts (writing samples available here), and creating promotional graphics for upcoming shows. I thoroughly enjoyed these tasks and developed strong relationships with the production and management teams at NCT and the NCT Conservatory. My photography and design work were later featured in promotional emails, newsletters, and flyers distributed throughout Raleigh and its surrounding areas, as well as on various social media platforms.

Summer 2020 Freelance

After completing my internship, I returned to school for the 2019-2020 academic year, ultimately disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout 2020, NCT faced significant challenges as a non-profit theatre company in a world where live performances were no longer viable. To remain relevant amid ongoing cancellations and dwindling hopes for reopening, NCT sought to launch a major fundraising initiative.

In the middle of summer 2020, NCT reached out to me regarding an upcoming series designed to raise funds during this difficult period. Titled "Stargazing," the series aimed to feature stars from past productions discussing how the theatre had influenced their careers.

Following my internship, the managerial team invited me to return to assist with creating graphics and editing the series. I was honored to take on this role and ended up producing every episode, as well as designing promotional materials that aligned with NCT’s existing brand. This freelance project marked my first experience in the field and solidified my interest in pursuing a career in design and videography.
